Following up her breathy brilliant work on Herbie Hancock's 'Gershwin's World', Joni Mitchell creates her own tribute to the great composers of the past with 'Both Sides Now'. Don't expect Joni's famous guitar tunings on this one, she's backed up by the 71-piece London Symphony Orchestra and this album delivers big time. Interestingly the most welcomed track is the reworking of Mitchell's own "A Case For You" originally from 1972's Classic 'Blue" and one of the clearest interpretations of the old "I love you go away' mentality. This album serves as a complete expression of the road to love Mitchell says "I wanted this one to develop sequentially, with a beginning, a middle and an end, telling the story of what two people in love take each other through". Featuring jewels like Stormy Weather and Don't Worry About me from the 30's and newer smoothies like don't go to Strangers and Mitchell's own Both Sides Now this is another breathtaking accomplishment. - By John Beaudin
