Jeff
Kashiwa Another Door Opens
Native Language
Years
ago David Foster said "a great song should
by-pass any genre limitations." Another
Door Opens is filled with little goodies that
musically should appeal to you whether Smooth
Jazz is your drug or not. Hell these songs would
sound good on a two stringed fiddle. Inspiring,
infectious and indispensable Jeff kashiwa offers
this his third album as his ticket to the 'A'
list in Smooth Jazz. Having spent years playing
sax alongside guitarist Russ Freeman in the
Rippingtons Kashiwa made the final split in
1999. "There was no friction in the band"
says Kashiwa "I just wanted to put more
time into my solo projects" With some help
from some Smooth Jazz heavy hitters like Jeff
Lorber, Marc Antoine, Russell Ferrante and Will
Kennedy another Door Opens delivers. The big
hit 'Hyde Park'(the "Ah oooh" song)
which spent eight weeks at # 1 opens the disc.
It's the quintessential Smooth Jazz banner song
on what a great single should sound like, straight
ahead catchy and feel good. 'Hyde Park' also
serves as a reminder that Smooth Jazz radio
does not play enough songs of this caliber.
Maybe there are not enough out there? Well for
starters there are eleven power sounding hit's
on this one. Like Dave Koz Kashiwa creates a
seamless sax CD package with no unwanted filler
tracks. 'Every Now & Then' stands out and
displays the amazing chemistry between Kashiwa
and co-producer/keyboardist Jeff Lorber trust
me you'll be humming this one in the shower.
Every track on this CD should stay with you
and lift that quality bar in Smooth Jazz to
the next level.
