That
is exactly what world class bassist Brian Bromberg has assembled
on this new release "Downright Upright", the CD opens
with three tracks that have become standards in the jazz world
Herbie
Hancock's "Cantaloupe Island", Joe Zawinul's "Mercy,
Mercy, Mercy" and Les Mccann/Eddie Harris' "Cold Duck
Soup." These tracks alone should make even the most hardcore
jazz traditionalist take note and give the disc a listen. Oh yeah
you will also find "Chameleon" and "Serengeti Walk"
on here too. Now to the playing
world class defines it. Brian
Bromberg is a pro and knows how and when to let the "other"
musicians shine
and they do! Just check out the solos from
Rick and Kirk on the opening track "Canteloupe Island".
My personal favs are "Sunday Morning" which is the perfect
song to start a week with your special someone, and "Slow Burn"
featuring nice work from George Duke and Gary Meek. There is something
here for everyone who enjoys great musicianship and Smooth Jazz,
and it is all held in the pocket by the consummate groove from brain
Bromberg and his bass. -
