Lily Tomlin once said "Why is it when we talk to
God, we're said to be praying - but when God talks to us, we're schizophrenic?"
The phenomenon of the Conversations With God books is nothing short
of miraculous. In 1992 Neale Donald Walsch was in a deep valley of his
life venting at God with pen in hand when suddenly the big cheese took
control and started writing - and to say that God had verbal diarrhea
would be an understatement. God it turns out also wanted to vent. Did
Walsch really talk to God? Is he making the whole damn thing up? Is
God really that hip? My deeply religious friends have used the word
blasphemy! More than a few times to describe these books but it's hard
to argue that these teaching have touched many in a very positive way.
This album is the very quick study to the books - it's basically modern
New Age music by Jerry Brunskill with God talking in the guise of actors
Ed Asner and Ellen Burstyn. You will not hear whole discourses but little
zingers like "religion is your attempt to speak of the unspeakable
- it does not do a very good job!" It's truly a powerful CD musically
it goes from soft twinkling piano to world techno-hybrids depending
on the mood of the message. Brunskill creates a perfect atmosphere musically
complimenting inspirational thoughts much like a gospel choir brings
together the vibe of an event. Brunskill's soundtrack also gives us
time to ponder or feel out the message - unlike the audio tapes(which
also featured Asner and Burstyn) this album gives us time to breath
in between the words. Remember this version of God presents a whole
slew of new ideas and reading the books can be a tad overwhelming -
you can take baby steps with this album or it could serve as a refresher
course for older fans. If your raising your fist at God like Neale Donald
Walsch was years ago try this album out it should soften the blow. If
you have problems finding this one try the official Walsch site at
