Sacramento Loses Their Smooth Jazz KSSJ 94.7 March 5, 2010 – Smooth Jazz has gone dark in Sacramento. Entercom Communications, owners of Smooth Jazz KSSJ 94.7 FM pulled the plug on the station this week. As of Wednesday morning the station has switched to alternative music.
On the main page of the station’s website the management stated that everything was financial. "In the past few years, the business side of KSSJ has become increasingly difficult," the statement read. "The unfortunate fact is that the audience for the station can no longer sustain the business of the station"
In the last rating KSSJ was ranked in 23rd place with adults 18-49 year olds. Entercom’s other station KRXQ/98Rock was number one in both the 18-49 and 25-54 demographics. – by John Beaudin
Here is the full statement : As we all know, the one thing we can count on in life is change. It’s in that spirit that I must tell you that the format on 94.7 KSSJ is going to change Wednesday, March 3rd at 12:00 pm. Playing Smooth Jazz favorites is one side of who we are – it’s the side you hear. The other side is the reality that operating a radio station is a business – that’s the side we see.
In the past few years, the business side of KSSJ has become increasingly difficult. There are many reasons for it, but the unfortunate fact is that the audience for the station can no longer sustain the business of the station. In that way, we’re no different from a retail business that doesn’t have enough customers to keep the doors open.
One of the best parts of this adventure has been the Smooth Jazz Concert Series at the Radisson Hotel. Fortunately, many of these shows will continue. If you’d like more information on the concert series, please click on this link: www.huskyshows.com .
94.7 KSSJ leaves a legacy of sound. We’ve considered it an honor and a pleasure to have entertained you over the years. Your support has been appreciated more than you’ll ever know. If you wish to leave a comment, please use the following link: click here to send us your comments.
Stay smooth Sacramento…

Broadcaster Award Goes To Dave Koz and Pat Prescott June
28, 2005 - Weekends are usually a good time for Dave
Koz considering his Dave Koz radio show
typically airs on Saturdays or Sundays. This past weekend was especially extraordinary
as the saxophonist won the top Broadcaster prize at the yearly R&R convention held this year in Cleveland. Koz and co-host Pat Prescott won for the
Personality/Show prize for their work at KTWV
The Wave in Los Angeles. They won the same prize last year as well as in 2002.
Station of the year was WNUA in Chicago for
market 1-25, KSSJ in Sacramento won in markets 26-100 and WCJZ Charlottsville
in the 100+ department. KTWV The Wave in L.A. won another award via the top Program Director prize for Paul Goldstein.
Suzanne Berg was picked as top Promotion Executive, Kelly Cole of KIFM in San Diego was Music Director of the Year and Verve was top label. - by John

Jazz Nominations from R&R Magazine May
25, 2005 - They say that radio can sometimes be a thankless job but maybe "they"
are talking to the wrong people. Radio and
Records (R&R) magazine have announced nominations for the "Industry
Achievement Awards" and Smooth Jazz personalities and programmers were well
represented. Nominated for Program Director are KTWV's Paul Goldstein in Los Angeles; Bernie Kimble at WNWV in Cleveland, Blake Lawrence from WQCD in New York, Baltimore's Lori Lewis at WSMJ,
Chicago's Steve Stiles at WNUA and our friend Mike Vasquez from KIFM in San Diego. More

Smooth Jazz Radio Arbitron Ratings Results: May
19, 2005 - Arbitron's Winter 2005 radio ratings have been released, and it features
several Smooth Jazz stations with happy returns. Stations on the up: Detroit's
"V 98.7" (WVMV) moved up to 5th place ages 12 and older. San
Diego's KIFM 98.1 vaulted to 3rd. Both Denver's
"Smooth Jazz 104.3" (KJCD) and Miami's
"Love 94" (WLVE) climbed over 1 full share and placed 8th and 7th
respectively, while Tampa's WSJT 94.1 and Minneapolis' KJZI 100.3 increased
exactly 1 full share to 6th and 11th respectively. Sacramento's
KSSJ 94.7 did even better, raising nearly 1 and a half shares all the way
to 2nd overall. Seattle's KWJZ 98.9 also
had a stellar season, jumping to 3rd. Springfield,
MA's locally-owned "106.3
Smooth FM" (WEIB) had an impressive showing itself, jumping over a full
share to notch 16th. Not quite enjoying the same success was New
York's "CD 101.9 New York Chill" (WQCD), which struggled in its
first full ratings period since implementing Chill music into its playlist, dropping
to a tie for 16th. Phoenix's KYOT 95.5 dipped to 12th, its lowest 12 and older ratings showing in quite some time. -
