TORONTO -- Canada's latest music
sensation will face off against a veteran marvel who's been conquering
the charts for years.
Avril Lavigne and Shania Twain
will square off for Album of the Year and songwriter of the year
at the 32nd annual Junos.
Nominations were announced this
morning in Toronto. Lavigne's debut album ``Let Go'' has been
on the charts since its release last June. She leads the pack
with six nominations, including best new artist and best pop album.
Lavigne is also competing for five Grammies. Twain has received
five nominations, including artist of the year. Her album ``Up!''
was the highest-selling album last year. The country superstar
will be up against Celine Dion, Alanis Morissette, francophone
singer-songwriter Daniel Belanger, and Motown's Remy Shand in
the artist of the year category. It could be a busy night for
Shania -- she is also hosting the Juno awards show which will
be held in Ottawa in April.
