Let Smooth Jazz Recession-Proof your Mind, Body and Soul
June 11, 2009 - The alarm rings, its 6am, the news is full of stimulus info, bailouts, foreclosures and layoffs….  My God, enough is enough!! You have to find a place to get away, have to find yourself and be at peace…..

You rush toward the shower and take the time to stop and turn  on your bose.  Alex Zonjic starts to serenade you with “Isabela” and really get you in gear with his funky rendition of “Sweat” as you lather up and rinse for the last time.

Breakfast is a quick stop in the kitchen with cereal and some non-fat milk, but you are still jamming away with the sound of Gerald Albright thumping in the background.  Damn, Rice Krispies and coffee never tasted so good..  You’re already feeling better, ready to take on the world and head for the car,,,,  the long drive, with traffic and dealing with drivers that may have gotten their driver’s licenses from WalMart… on sale…. Ughhhhh.

Ok,  take a deep breath and take along some really cool passengersl  Load up the CD-Player with the likes of Wyman Tisdale, Kirk Whalum, Earl Klugh and Warren Hill..  If you really want a stimulating ride, don’t forget to take Norman Brown with you.

Now normally when you hit the road to head to work, you’ve got news and talk radio blasting into the inner recesses of your soul, preparing you for a day of road-rage and political manipulation from your colleagues at work..  Everything is quite tense these days with the economic situation..

However, today is a new day..  you started your day with Smooth-Jazz, had breakfast with it and now the ride to work.  well let’s just say the elderly man wearing the fedora, riding in the left lane with his right blinker on for the last 10km, really doesn’t seem to bother you as much today…  you smile, keep the beat with Tisdale’s ” Ain’t No Stopping Us Now”, switch lanes and head into the office….  Refreshed………..

I didn’t say that Smooth-Jazz will fix all,  you still have to deal with the cube-mate that picks his nose constantly, the email that just arrived announcing a reduction in company benefits and a quick note from the Corporate President that there will be no raises or bonuses this year.  But, you are still cloaked in your Smooth-Jazz cocoon with an iPod loaded with Candy Dulfer and “Peeling a Grape” with Dina Kroll.  You take your day in stride, prioritize your work and amazingly able to focus.  Hell this has been one of the most productive days you had in a very long time…

The ride home is just as pleasant as it started 8 hours ago and you pull into the garage with renewed vision and visions of a filet mignon on the grill partnered with a bottle of an Australian Shiraz.  All the while letting Brian Culbertson work his magic in the background.

Recession, what recession, you’ve had a pretty good day..  Could it get any better?  Why of course…  find someone to share it with dummy! J  Don’t keep this all to yourself,, Bring in some friends, lovers, family members…  we could all use some smooth-jazz to get through this time.  Its better then any stimulus package and the biggest mental “bailout” on the market..

Reflecting on the days events, you head for bed and as tempting as you are to turn on Jay Leno, you select your local Smooth Jazz radio station, ending your day as relaxed as it began with a renewed mind, body and soul….. Waking up and dealing with the stresses of the day will take on a new meaning………………  I dare you to try it!!!
