Zappacosta Leads Nominations at the 4th Annual Canadian
Smooth
Jazz Awards October 10, 2007 - The nominations for the 4th Annual
Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards were announced today. This
year's roster is led by Edmonton singer/songwriter, Alfie
Zappacosta, with 3 nominations. They are "Male
Vocalist," "Best Original Composition"
for 'Dreams will Come True', off his latest CD, 'Bonafide'
which received a nod for "Best Album." Nine
other artists were nominated for two awards each, including
Michael Buble, Gregory Charles, Julie
Crochetiere, Allistair Elliott, Dave Sereny,
Les Sabler, Carol Welsman and Darren
Rahn.
The awards will be presented Friday, March 7, 2008 at
8pm. in Hammerson Hall at The Living Arts Centre in
Mississauga, Ontario. The George Benson Lifetime
Achievement Award will be presented this time to renowned
US guitarist, Lee Ritenour. Veteran broadcaster
and flutist Alexander Zonjic, who is nominated
for two awards, will once again host the ceremony. Tickets
will be available Monday, November 19, 2007. Confirmed
to perform at the ceremony are sax stars, Warren Hill
and vocalist/pianist Carol Welsman, newcomer Allistair
Elliott, and guitarists Dave Sereny and Les
Sabler. Alfie Zappacosta and host Zonjic
and Peter White will also perform. Other names
will be released shortly.
The Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards were created in
2004 by John Beaudin, Program Director of California
103 in Calgary and President of Smooth Jazz Now.com
and Mary and Doug Kirk, owners of Canada's very
first Smooth Jazz station, Wave 94.7FM Smooth Jazz
in Toronto/Hamilton. Beaudin says, "These Awards
are the largest on the planet for Smooth Jazz and Mary
and I are honoured to present this celebration of excellence
for the musicians and fans." Kirk says, "This
show has become a North American Love-in for Smooth Jazz
artists and fans. From the moment it ends, the fans seem
to look forward to next year's show where they can hear
and pay tribute to the very best players in Smooth Jazz.

Also nominated were Diana Krall and Molly Johnson,
both vying for Female Vocalist of the Year. Jesse Cook
and Warren Hill were nominated for "Guitarist"
and "Wind Instrumentalist," respectively. Toronto
group, Four80East, who successfully released their
hit album, En Route, into the US this year, were nominated
for Album of the Year.
The Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards also includes International
"Instrumentalist" and "Vocal" categories.
Rick Braun, Richard Elliot, Gregg Karukas,
Jeff Lorber and Peter White were nominated
for International Instrumentalist of the Year. Newcomer
Kelly Sweet has been nominated for International
Vocalist of the Year, along with Randy Crawford,
Janita, Ryan Shaw and Slim Man.
