CALGARY
KIDS BENEFIT $215 000 FROM RADIOTHON December
2, 2004
- Wednesday December 1 was a
great day for kids in Calgary. For the second year in a row, the Children's Cottage
Radiothon exceeded it's fundraising goal. Wednesday's total surpassed $215 000!
The Children's Cottage provides a safe haven for kids from infant to 8 years
old, whose families are in crisis. Parents can bring their kids to the cottage
if they feel a situation is getting out of hand or dangerous. In some cases, it's
just a matter of needing a couple of days to get their life in order. The Cottage
is there to provide that immediate help for the kids, as well as respite and in-home
care through it's programs.
While the Children's Cottage does receive
some municipal and provincial funding, it's not nearly enough to cover the cost
of operating the facility. Without the radiothon, they would either have to shut
down programs, close beds, or both.
With the $215 000 raised on Wednesday
through the Radiothon on The Breeze 103.1, the Cottage can enter 2005 confident
in the knowledge that their programs are secure, and all beds will remain open.
The Breeze began the broadcast at 5:30am, and the Radiothon was live from Bow
Valley Square until 7pm. By that time, more than double the funds had been raised
compared to the previous year's total of just over $100 000.
The Breeze
is privileged to be the broadcast partner for this critically important Calgary
organization, and are proud to have been able to help achieve this milestone!- Mike Shannon,
