Dulfer Teams up With Sheila E June
16, 2005 - Candy Dulfer and Band will be
performing with percussionist Sheila E at this
years North
Sea Jazz Festival in The Netherlands on July 10th. Candy plays on occasion
with Prince's touring band, as well as leading a band of her own. Prince band
mates John Blackwell (drums), and Chance Howard (keyboards/vocals) will appear
as part of Candy's band during the North Sea outing. Dulfer made her performing
debut at North Sea as a member of the Ladies Horn Section in Rosa King's band,
and credits the legendary leader with providing her a great example of stellar
leadership, and with encouraging her to take the lead herself. Dulfer was just
12 years old at the time of her debut performance with King. - by Cheryl

Sheila
E honoured as Woman of the Year May
30, 2005 - Percussionist extraordinaire Sheila E
was honoured on May 21st, 2005, as "Woman of the Year" for her career
achievements and charity work, at the 2nd Annual "I'm Every Woman" Conference
in Los Angeles. Frank McComb and violinist Karen Briggs performed a tribute to
the musician, who was on hand.
Most well known for her 80's hits alongside
Prince and his funk/jazz/rock fusion Minneapolis sound, Sheila has mellowed considerably
on her two latest recordings, both of which fit quite well into the Smooth Jazz
genre (Heaven/Concord 2001 and Passage/Concord 2000).
It has been 3 plus
long years since Sheila has recorded as a leader, but the talented Miss E has
not been resting on her laurels. Touring extensively in those years, along with
several other musical enterprises (developing a set of training drums for students,
and working with the charity L'il Angel Bunny Foundation, for which she is Co-founder,
and Co-chair and which assists with the needs of abandoned and abused children
through music therapy) she will appear at the North Sea Jazz festival in The Hague,
Netherlands on July 10, 2005, and at Yoshi's in San Francisco upon returning,
to celebrate the 70th birthday of her legendary father, percussionist Pete Escovedo.
