Rik Emmett Grateful To Have Good Company
February 25, 2005 - How does Rik Emmett feel about award shows? He told Smooth Jazz Now.com, "I have had the sad frustration of sitting in a crowd at a Juno's show more than once where I was up and kind of hopeful but then you don't win and you have to sit there with that plastic smile on your face." Emmett is nominated for "Guitarist of the Year" at the very first Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards and he says overall he's thankful, "I have to say though it's great to be nominated, recognized and included and it's nice company to be in. It's all good." Emmett is nominated along with Jamie Bonk, Jesse Cook, Brian Hughes, Johannes Linstead, Robert Michaels, Les Sabler and Andrew Scott. Read our new interview with Rik Emmett.

Rik Emmett Returns in "Good Faith"
October 27, 2003 - Last time we chatted with Rik Emmett in 2001 the topic was his latest Smooth Jazz album "Handiwork." As we revisit the singer/guitarist the topic turns to his new musical venture the singer/songwriter influenced "Good Faith." There are many touches of Jazz on the new album though like "Beacon Street Hotel," a tale of an imaginary smoked filled seedy bar and "Wicked Miss" about just that an evil temptress. Emmett told us he lost his mother to cancer during the making of "Good Faith" and as the title suggests "there was a concerted effort in the songwriting to try to find positive things. Things that were life affirming" We talked to Emmett via phone on October 2, 2003.

Review - Rik Emmett - Handiwork
Finding your voice as a musician is not unlike finding yourself in life- just when you think your there something or someone kicks your ass to whatever level that's coming to you. Rik Emmett's had his fair share of crossroads- leaving well known rock band Triumph in 1988 and completely turning his back on the pretension of the biz. With Handiwork Emmett has graduated to a level he himself might not have imagined but it's certainly a league he belongs in. Read the rest of the review.
