Bachman Has No Problem Losing Money For Jazz July
12, 2004 - Smooth Jazz Now 'Artist of the Month' Randy
Bachman told us at this point in his career he's just having fun. His latest
album 'JazzThing' is a continuation on a road he first went down with childhood
friend and guitar mentor the late Lenny Breau. "The fans kept saying, I'm
not getting enough Jazz from you" says Bachman "I'm losing money doing
Jazz believe me. I'm down to one tenth of my earnings." The former B.T.O.
and Guess Who member doesn't seem to care adding he feels like a teenager again
practicing hours a day and learning new licks. "It's also learning what you
want," He says enthusiastically, "When someone forces you into learning
something it just roles off your back but when you want it you're just a sponge."

8, 2004 - Tickets are going on sale tomorrow for a big benefit show on Vancouver
Island Sept. 17. Smooth Jazz Now 'Artist of the Month' Randy

Barenaked Ladies on the show to benefit the Crofton Airshed Citizens Group. The
community-based organization currently battling a local pulp mill's proposal to
burn alternative fuels such as coal, tires and railway ties to reduce fuel costs.
Bachman who lives on Salt Spring Island says, "I think it's probably going
to be the biggest concert ever on Vancouver Island." The show, to be held
at the 2,500-seat Cowichan Theatre. Randy
Bachman - Artist Of The Month For July July
2, 2004 - Randy
Bachman told Smooth Jazz Now that he has no plans on ever retiring - he just
wants to keep reinventing himself through his songs. The former member of Bachman
Turner Overdrive and the Guess Who says while he was growing up in Winnipeg in
the era that first brought Elvis to the masses he met a musical genius named Lenny
Breau. Though he taught Bachman much about the guitar he was also very adamant
about the power of a song. Most serious musicians know of Breau's legendary guitar
style but unfortunately he remains virtually unknown. Breau was murdered in 1984
and Bachman wants to make sure no one ever forgets him. He is re-releasing many
rare Breau recordings through his Guitarchives record label. Bachman also has
a virtual duet with Breau on his new album 'JazzThing.' We spoke to Bachman by
phone in June 2004. Read our interview with
Randy Bachman.

Bachman Visits The Breeze In Calgary May
14, 2004 - Randy Bachman said it wouldn't
be the toughest gig of his career but he did feel some major competition in Calgary
yesterday. The guitarist's gig at Kaos just happened to be at the same time as
the Calgary Flames first semi-final home game against the San Jose Sharks at the
Saddledome. "Maybe I'll perform in front of the game on a big screen!"
laughed Bachman, "Ok, I won't know who their cheering for but I'll just pretend
it's for me." The former member of Bachman Turner Overdrive and the Guess
Who is promoting his new album 'JazzThing' and dropped by The
Breeze radio station for an on air chat with John
Beaudin yesterday. Bachman will be Smooth Jazz Now's 'Artist of the Month'
for July.

Bachman Releases 'JazzThing'
Bachman
and Smooth Jazz Now's John Beaudin
May
14, 2004 - Not many artists in music have had the luxury of shedding their skin
over and over and still coming out on top. Randy
Bachman certainly has and even though a lot of fans might not know it the
legendary guitarist was doing Jazz a long time before he was 'Taking Care Of Music'
with Bachman Turner Overdrive and the Guess Who. Bachman credits those Jazz beginnings
to a little known guitar legend Lenny Breau. Bachman was sixteen years old when
he met Breau who was a year older, "My schooling crashed and burned I think
for two years I flunked grade eleven, flunked grade twelve and those two years
with Lenny Breau were the best years of my life." Breau who died in 1984
lived close to Bachman's girlfriend at the time so they were together a lot. Bachman
told Smooth Jazz Now, 'He taught me musical taste, how to play when not to play
and he introduced me to the two Chet's, Chet Baker and Chet Atkins." On his
new 'JazzThing' CD Bachman performs along with an older Breau recording. Also
expect a mysterious moody take on Johnny Cash 'I Walk The Line' and a stripped
down take on Gershwin's 'Summertime.' Look for the first of two interviews with
Randy Bachman coming to Smooth Jazz Now next week.
