The
10th Annual Palm Springs Smooth Jazz Festival Makes for Good Medicine
April
8, 2005 - Warm winds, smooth jazz and a friendly concert for a great cause add
up to a weekend not to be missed at the 10th Annual Palm Springs Smooth Jazz Festival
on May 20 and 21. On the bill this year talented Canadian jazz guitarist, Brian
Hughes, sax man Everette Harp and perennial favorites Spyro
Gyra entertain on Friday night's Community Appreciation Night. Saturday night,
which features the Gala Dinner and Awards Celebration, The Robby Longley Trio
and international recording sensations Acoustic Alchemy will take to the stage.Again,
this year, the popular event will be held at the O'Donnell Golf Club in downtown
Palm Springs. Not only does this festival provide a fine treat for smooth jazz
fans, it is a major fundraising effort for Hanson House, the Coachella Valley's
first and only hospital hospitality house, a home for the families of the critically
ill and injured being treated in Palm Springs area hospitals. Hanson House is
staffed entirely by volunteers under the direction of the Executive Director and
a volunteer coordinator. Over 320 families (trauma, open heart, med-surg, cancer,
hospice, neo-natal) from across the U.S.A., Mexico, Canada and Western Europe
have been welcomed. There were 4800 room nights in the first 12 months of operation
in 2004, and for 2005 the target is 6,000 room nights.
Hanson
House was conceived and developed by Frank R. Ercoli M.D., FACS - Medical Director
of Trauma and Critical Care Services at Desert Regional Medical Centre. For more
