Diana Krall Wins Juno Award - Nelly Furtado Bombs as Host but Wins Five
April 2, 2007 - Diana Krall won a Juno this past weekend but it wasn't televised. As in previous years the Juno awards split the ceremony over two nights. Most of the Jazz. Blues, Roots, World and Classical awards were given out on Saturday night while the Pop/Rock awards got the royal treatment with the CTV Networks televised program. Krall's album "From this Moment" won for "Vocal Jazz Album of the Year." Hilario Duran and His Latin Jazz Big Band picked up Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year for the CD "From the Heart" and Jon Ballantyne's "Avenue Standard" was "Traditional Jazz Album of the Year" The Sisters Euclid grabbed Instrumental Album of the Year with "Run Neil Run".

Nelly Furtado swept all her categories last night winning five Juno's. The singer also hosted the event albeit nervously. Furtado seemed awkward, quirky and rather out of her league in spite of her third album's worldwide success. Her attempts at humour fell flat and the singer barely mentioned her U.S. hip-hop producer Timbaland who played a huge role in the success of her album "Loose." Maybe CTV will dig a little deeper next year and hire a host who actually has chops in that department. The event was painful to watch thanks to Furtado but wait, isn't this the same network that hired Ben Mulroney to host Canadian Idol? Oh It's all making sense now! - by John Beaudin

ST. JOHN'S, Nfld. - At a long, roaring party that likely won't be forgotten for a long time on the Rock, the Canadian music industry looked with love on Diana Krall and reminded Nickelback how great they really are. With three Juno awards apiece, Krall and Nickelback were winners in the top categories at Sunday night's Juno awards. Krall took best artist and best album, as well as best vocal jazz album for The Look of Love."I think this is the best awards, the most musical,'' the Nanaimo, B.C.native said. "The best music I've heard in a long time is Canadian,'' an emotional Krall said, collecting her best artist award.
Backstage and somewhat flustered, Krall said the two major awards were completely unexpected. "I'm a little bit in semi-shock right now, I'm just blown away . . . it's amazing, I feel like third clarinet in band getting on the basketball team.'' read the full story
