After reading famous economist Jeffrey Sachs’ book “The End of Poverty”, Legend launched the “Show Me Campaign” an organization aimed at eradicating extreme poverty in villages across Africa.
This work at a grassroots level has been recently saluted by the humanitarian organization CARE, which recently awarded Legend ‘The Care Humanitarian Award for Global Change.’ Former recipients of this prestigious award were key figures such as Nelson Mandela, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Elton John.
In response to the news that he would be this year’s award recipient, Legend stated, “CARE’s long commitment to defending dignity and fighting poverty among the world’s most vulnerable people is a shining model for us all. I am truly honoured by this gesture from CARE and accept it as a call to intensify the fight to end global poverty in our lifetime.”
