Joe Farrell Estate Sues Kanye, Common and Method Man
June 4, 2008 – Now this has been known to happen in the biz. The daughter of the late Jazz great Joe Farrell says don’t take things that are not yours, she suing rappers Kanye, Common, Method Man over a jazz sample of Farrell’s 1974 tune “Upon This Rock.”

The sample is actually used on three songs, West in "Gone," Common in "Chi-City" and "Run 4 Cover." If this is the case, why didn’t they just ask? Reps for Universal Music Group had no comment. Farrell’s daughter is seeking punitive damages of at least $1 million and asked that no further copies of the songs be made, sold or performed, according to the lawsuit. – Kari Graham
