Jay Soto in Concert to Support HIV-AIDS
June 26, 2008 - Talented Smooth Jazz guitarist Jay Soto will perform live at the “First Annual Night of Jazz and Fashion by the Sea Concert” to be held on August 30, 2008 at the Hermosa Beach Community Theatre, in Hermosa Beach, California. This charity event is organized by the Hush Foundation and will raise funds for children with HIV/AIDS and paediatric HIV/AIDS Research.

The “Night of Jazz and Fashion by the Sea Benefit Concert" will begin with a pre-show red carpet ceremony/meet-and-greet mixer from 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. with the concert beginning at 7:00 p.m. until 10:00 p.m.
Jay Soto is a talented guitarist, songwriter, engineer and producer, whose 2007 album “Stay Awhile” (Nu Groove Records) was a great success. His first single “Slammin” reached #2 and stayed for 42 weeks in the Top 30 of R&R Smooth Jazz Chart. The Phoenix-based musician is currently working on his next CD, where he will not only display his notable guitar skills, but also his singing abilities. It was Jeffrey Osborne who inspired Soto to add his vocals to his upcoming album. When I interviewed Jay he said, “I really plan to add my vocals to my next album and this little story helped me come to that conclusion. The day of the Jeffrey Osborne session, I met him in person for the first time. I was extremely excited about this since he’s always been one of my favourite R&B/Pop vocalists. At one point during a break, Jeffrey asked Darren Rahn and me “who’s singing on the demo?” He thought it might have been Darren or someone else. When Darren pointed out that it was me who sang the demo, he replied with, “Why didn’t you sing this tune yourself for the album?” He suggested that for my next album I sing a few songs at least. I thought at first maybe he was just being polite, but I think he really meant it which really made think, hmmm, maybe... I’m no Jeffrey but why not give it a shot?”

Phoenix
Reveals the Hottest New Smooth Jazz Player - Guitarist
Jay Soto
October
12, 2005 - There is Smooth Jazz treasure in the
Phoenix heat. Sharing the Arizona stage with George
Benson and Marion
Meadows is a new guy on the block, Jay
Soto. He has just released his debut album,
"Long Time Coming", you can find audio
samples on his website at www.jsotomusic.com.
After checking out the samples, you might agree,
hopefully the next CD will not be a long time in
coming.
Jay
was lucky enough to hook up with sax wizard, Michael
Lington for a couple of tracks. Major score
for a new artist and we wondered how he hooked
up with Lington. Jay told us he had spent a lot
of money on his debut CD and couldn't afford to
cut corners, especially in the sax department.
He wanted someone with a familiar sound who would
get the job done quickly. "I was driving
one day and heard the exact sound I was looking
for, it was Michael
Lington. I contacted him and he agreed to
do the tracks, he had just enough time to record
before he left on tour. I really think I caught
him on the right day.
"Live
it Up," the peppy first tune on the CD looks
like it will be the first single, but Jay says
he has gotten lots of feedback from airplay with
some of the other tunes. "Live It Up"
was one of the final melodies I came up with towards
the end of the writing process and I think it's
the most "in the zone" tune on my album.
By the time I got to "Live It Up", I
was really in tune to where my project was going
and what I wanted. As I was recording the song,
I initially had just my guitar covering the melody
and thought it was
working fairly well as a whole. I requested for
Michael to take a solo after mine, but I also
mentioned to take liberties with the rest of the
song. He ended up doubling the melody with me
and in the end it just sounded phenomenal! My
lesson learned was that when you think you've
got something really good happening in the studio,
there's almost always something that can be done
to make it even better.
Jay
says Phoenix is a great place to hear straight
ahead Jazz, with Smooth Jazz not quite at the
gigging level, a profile that Jay hopes to change,
and with fellow artists like Benson and Meadows
in the neighborhood that day may not be far off.
As
for the future, Jay would like to round up some
great players for a tour. He's also busy selling
his CDs independently, something else he would
like to change. "I definitely have high hopes
of teaming up with a great label. I'll continue
to write as I now have enough tunes for my next
album."
