inductees to Jazz Hall of Fame August
29, 2005 - The Nesuhi Ertegun
Jazz Hall of Fame has announced its 2005 inductees. The hall, which opened
last fall at Jazz at Lincoln Center's new home in the Time Warner Centre in Manhattan,
New York, was named after the Turkish born Ertegun, who played a key role in developing
the catalogue at Atlantic Records, the label founded by his brother Ahmet. The
2005 inductees are: Count Basie, Ella
Fitzgerald, Benny Goodman, Roy Eldridge,
Earl "Fatha" Hines, Johnny Hodges, Jo "Papa Jo" Jones, Charles
Mingus, Ken Oliver, and Thomas
"Fats" Waller.
Max Roach and Sonny
Rollins round out the list as the first two living members to be inducted
