Dave
Brubeck Not Ready To Retire June
13, 2003 - Jazz legend Dave Brubeck's "Take
Five" was the very first million-selling jazz
record in 1959 and the pianist say's even though
he's played the classic thousands of times he's
still not sick of it. "Do you get tired of
'St. Louis Blues' or 'Stardust,' or any of the standards?"
he asked. "That's just part of what you do.
I never get tired of those tunes." Brubeck
who's still a huge concert draw says he's also not
sick of working. "I love what I do," he
said. "I don't enjoy the traveling or any of
that, but I love playing. More and more, I'm beginning
to understand myself. But it would have been great
to be able to understand myself when I was 20 rather
than when I was 82." Brubeck will play the
Playboy Jazz Festival this Sunday. He first played
the festival when it was in Chicago in 1959. Playboy
boss Hugh Hefner says there will be a huge celebration
at the event this year because of the 25th anniversary.
The Playboy Jazz Festival will be at the Hollywood
Bowl. Read
