and just seeing what happens and if it starts
working, theyll write songs, Read

Daryl
Stuermer Prepares for Genesis Reunion Tour
& Solo Album April
13, 2007 - You could call Daryl
Stuermer one of the busiest men in music
- he certainly is on top of his game. The
Milwaukee guitarist is ready to embark on
the Genesis
reunion tour this summer and next week he
releases his new Contemporary Jazz album "GO."
With this new album I decided to focus in
on my more overdriven electric guitar playing"
say Stuermer, " These are probably my
most energetic and intense compositions. There
is also a couple mid tempo ballads, but even
they have a simmering under current of energy.
I feel it's my most focused album to date."
The guitarist told Smooth Jazz Now he is always
conscious to keep each album fresh, "Generally
I try not to repeat myself. I don't want to
get bored of myself and I of course don't
want my fans to get bored." We asked
Stuermer if he was surprised by the reunion
of the supergroup Genesis? "There was
always some loose talk of a reunion but it
never became a serious discussion until last
year. I was on tour with Phil
Collins in 2005 when I first got word
of a possible tour but was sworn to secrecy.
We didn't formally get together until October
2006 to see if the magic was still there.
We rehearsed in New York for 2 weeks and went
through the songs that would work best for
the upcoming tour." The European Genesis
reunion tour will kick off on June 11 in Helsinki,
Finland and end with a free concert on July
14 in Rome. North American Dates start in
Toronto with a special invitation only rehearsal
gig on September 5 and conclude Oct. 12 in
Los Angeles. Get details on Stuermer at www.darylstuermer.com

Daryl
Stuermer Not Amused by Bad Political Jokes November
2, 2004 - Daryl
Stuermer says he became more political
with this Presidential election than any other,
"I have never put a sign out in front
of my house and this is the first year that
I did," says the Phil
Collins and former Genesis guitarist.
"Our country is totally divided, Kerry
and Bush are like at 48% each in the polls.
It's so close no one can predict anything;
I certainly don't know what's going to happen
here." Stuermer doesn't hide the fact
that he's a Kerry supporter but he draws the
line on political jokes in bad taste, "I
don't hate George Bush," says Stuermer,
"However, I do get offended with these
emails I receive that make George Bush look
bad. Like a photo of a monkey and of Bush
pointing out the similarities in their faces.
That doesn't even interest me." The guitarist
urges everyone to vote today and let their
voice be counted. Daryl Stuermer has just
released his new Contemporary Jazz album "Retrofit."

Stuermer Returns From Phil Collins Tour With
"Retrofit" October
27, 2004 - On Daryl
Stuermer's touring journal available on
his website he wrote this about touring with
Phil Collins.
"It's the greatest job one could ever
have. Great Music, Great Boss, Good Paycheck,
Good Catering, Enthusiastic Fans, Travel The
World,......what's not to like!" Stuermer
has been touring with Collins since joining
Genesis as a touring member in 1978. Phil
Collins "First Final Farewell Tour"
is now on hiatus until next October, "Yeah
a year because Phil's wife is having a baby
and we're not going to start touring until
October of next year," says Stuermer.
"When we get back to it we'll do places
like Australia and Japan, South America and
even some eastern block places like Moscow
and Saint Petersburg. Stuermer did tell us
that no more North American dates are planned.
The guitarist has just released the new Contemporary
Jazz album "Retrofit." Read

Daryl
Stuermer Enjoys Noodling To Commercials April
22, 2004 - Former Genesis and current Phil
Collins guitarist Daryl
Stuermer likes to keep things intimate
with his guitar. So much so that when he's
watching television with his wife and kids
at his home in Milwaukee he brings his guitar
along, "I'll just sit there and just
noodle and play while we're all watching
television" says Stuermer. Things get
more intimate during station breaks, "when
a commercial comes on I play along with
the spots. My daughter always laughs and
says, 'you know that song?' and actually
I'm just learning it now." Stuermer
says, "The funny thing is one day I'm
sitting there and a Toyota commercial came
on and it was a Phil
Collins song (Can't Stop Loving You)
that I played on so that one was easy. Stuermer
will hit the road with Phil
Collins on his 'First Final Farewell'
tour starting in June of this year and is
about to release a new Contemporary Jazz
album 'Retrofit.' Read

- SweetBottom featuring Daryl Stuermer Live
- The Reunion December
9, 2003 - If anybody's familiar with Sweetbottom's
music, this would be a great one to have
in your collection. Daryl Stuermer, the
former Genesis guitar player gets it right
on the money with yet another project. To
coin the phrase "Things get better
with age" is an understatement. Daryl
Stuermer makes his guitar play magic and
with Warren Wiegratz's seductive sax makes
you beg for more. They play effortlessly
and have a fixed sound that all comes together
like a tight wound clock. Read

Stuermer Was Prepared For Genesis October
30, 2003 - Daryl Stuermer tells an interesting
story on how he got his dream job with the
band Genesis. Back in 1978 long time guitarist
Steve Hackett had left for a solo career
and over thirty guitarists auditioned to
replace him. Stuermer says, "Part of
the reason I got the job was that none of
the other guitarists had learned the songs."
Stuermer adds, "I assumed they got
the tape and that surprises me because half
of the reason you get a job as a musician
is because you come prepared and I was very
well prepared for this." Stuermer
stayed with Genesis' touring band until
Phil Collins
left in 1993 in fact the two are still playing
together. The guitarist has appeared on
most of Collin's solo albums and is currently
on a promotional tour for the singer's latest
project, Disney's "Brother Bear"
soundtrack. Stuermer has been keeping busy
having just reformed his seventies fusion
band Sweetbottom with brother Duane and
keyboardist Kostia. Read

Review
- Daryl Stuermer - Another Side Of Genesis I
discovered Jazz about the same time that
Phil Collins replaced Peter Gabriel as lead
vocalist of Genesis. It was 1975 and interestingly
all of my much older musical mentors had
two things in common, all loved Jazz while
owning every single Genesis album. The connection,
though not clear to me then seems to make
a lot of sense today. Jazz as a genre has
always broken the rules, Jazz musicians
like to reinvent, rattle, improvise and
virtually change the shape of whatever song
they are tackling. At least the adventurous
ones do. Genesis for the most part did the
same in Rock, so much so that they and other
bands like Yes and Pink Floyd gave birth
to a much more interesting sub-genre called
Art Rock. Read

- Daryl Stuermer - Waiting in the Wings This
album is another reminder why Smooth Jazz
is so popular in North America. It maintains
all the feel of great pop music; it's catchy,
inspirational and begs to be played over
and over. Daryl Stuermer, well known to
any Genesis fan as a touring member of the
band from 1978 to 1992 and constant back-up
to Phil Collins solo works shines on his
best album to date. The album opens with
the title track, featuring the gentle introspective
piano of Kostia whose '10 Pebbles' CD I
still consider one of the strongest in the
history of the Narada label. Read
