Clayton/Scott Group's New Album
January 9, 2003 - There's great news for fans of The Clayton/Scott Group the follow up to their successful debut 'August' has finally been recorded and keyboardist Jim Clayton says expect it in stores by spring. This time around Clayton/Scott enlisted production help from Four80East masterminds Rob DeBoer and Tony Grace. Clayton told Smooth Jazz Now he's very pleased with the results, "Recording with Rob & Tony was a great experience. They tightened up our arrangements, laid down amazing grooves, and pushed us to perform to a higher standard. I honestly think I play better on this CD than on anything I've done". 'August' was ranked at #9 on Smooth Jazz Now's Top Canadian Albums of the 2002 and received tons of airplay from both of Canada's official Smooth Jazz station The Breeze in Calgary and The Wave in Hamilton. We asked Jim Clayton to give us a feel for the next album "The new CD is definitely more polished than our first album. It sounds more "produced," in a good way, and I think it's more upbeat overall. With the Four80East guys behind the controls, nobody was giving anything less than their best. And there's some amazing musicians on the CD, including Don Thompson on vibes and Phil Dwyer on saxophone, plus a top-call three-piece horn section".
Review - The Clayton/Scott Group - August
Here's a cornucopia of near-flawless Smooth Jazz. This Toronto duo thinks big and delivers an album with bracing slickness. You know the kind that has a distinct flavor to soothe the musical palette. It's Jazz that's not too out there kind of a cross section of Jazz and Smooth Jazz. Driven heavily by melody and great piano chops from Jim Clayton and the smart guitar hooks of Andrew Scott August shares a rich passion for a genre on the move in Canada. The cozy satisfying 'Black Horse' is a stand out and the delicate yet robust 'Dukish' is clean and compelling. Read more.
