Chris Smith Day on California 103 August
16, 2007 - He is the most played artist at Calgary's
Smooth Jazz California
103 so the station is celabrating by making
today, Thursday, August 16 "Chris
Smith Day" in the city. Program Director
John Beaudin
says "There has always been a really cool
love affair between Calgary and Chris, this is
one of his top markets in the country and remember
we play 17 of his songs." California
103 is also celebrating the singer songwriters
concerts tomorrow night at the Artist of the World
room at the Art Gallery of Calgary. Beaudin says,
"it floors me that Chris is not a huge Smooth
Jazz star in the U.S. yet, just put on "I'll
Remember You" on any station in North America
and you'll get the calls." As reported yesterday
on Smooth Jazz Now.com Smith plans on releasing
his new album in 2008 but the singer will have
two new downloads available in the next couple
of months. John
Beaudin is also President of Smooth Jazz Now.com

Chris
Smith Readies New "Smooth
Jazz Friendly" Album
August
15, 2007 - Smooth Jazz singer, songwriter
Chris Smith
says "don't hold your breath for a whole
new album but I should have a couple of new
tunes ready within the next couple of months."
The multiple nominee at the Canadian
Smooth Jazz Awards told Smooth Jazz Now
that he's such a perfectionist that sometimes
deadlines come and go, "I've regretted
a few times in my career putting things out
before it's time, once it's out there, it's
out there forever." Though the singer
would not elaborate on the sound of his new
material he did tease on its "Smooth
Jazz friendly" direction. Smith scored
with hits like "I'll Remember You"
and 'Room Inside My Heart." His new album
should be released in 2008. Details at www.chrissmith.ca

Chris
Smith a Late Bloomer April
14, 2004 - Chris
Smith took his fine time to Smooth Jazz
stardom, "I guess I was kind of a late
bloomer" the vocalist told Smooth Jazz
Now. Smith says there were a lot of sidetracks
including working in a popular Ottawa record
store after graduation giving him the opportunity
to add to his LP collection in the seventies.
Another distraction and blessing came via
a musical sibling, "I was a groupie of
my brother's band essentially." Smith
says his older brother introduced him to the
music of Chick
Corea, the Allman Brothers and John Mclaughlan
- a more varied musical palette than most.
The singer songwriter said his kick in the
butt was Toronto's Humber College, "That
was the turning point for me because I met
so many musicians there and they were young
and wanted to do what I wanted to do. It was
really easy to find people to gig with. It
was a good time." Smith has just released
"Real Thing" featuring the Smooth
Jazz hit "Right Here Right Now."

Smith - Room Inside My Heart
Hard
to believe this CD is 7 years old - it's as
cool and fresh and as anything on the airwaves
today. Chris delivers 10 gems, including The
Wisdom Of Insecurity (the "swimming with
the dolphins" song), Something Sexual
(with Warren Hill guesting on sax!) and my
personal favorite - Over The Moon (which is
just about where Chris sends me!) Chris says
the album is about "finding and embracing
the rhythm in an ever-changing world."
I say "find this album in your CD player
and you'll embrace one of the finest smooth
jazz talents in Canada." Great vocals,
great lyrics, great grooves and from a great
guy to boot! by Vickie
