Babyface
Producing Bee Gees Tribute August
1, 2005 - Although Barry and Robin Gibb have decided to stop performing under
the Bee Gees name since the untimely death of
their brother Maurice, many projects featuring their work with brother Maurice
are in the works. Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds,
who is a huge fan of the Bee Gees, is producing
a tribute album with the brothers, which will feature artists renditions of Bee
Gee's tunes. Edmunds says the recordings will offer something new, while staying
true to the music of the Bee Gees. Wyclef Jean,
Paul McCartney, Sheryl Crow, Jagged Edge, Snoop Dog, and Rascal Flatts are some
of the artists set to appear on the outing. The album was recorded without a distribution
deal by design according to Gibb, in order to make the album without external
pressure from a label. In addition to the tribute album, a free summer concert
is in the works for the summer of 2006 in Central Park. Also in the planning stages
is a Broadway Musical (in the vein of Mama Mia), which will feature the music
of the band. The story, co-written by Robin, centers on a fashion designer and
the model he falls in love with. Pre-production begins on the show in the fall
for opening on Broadway, and in London's West End late next year. The rights to
the entire Bee Gees Catalogue will revert to
the brothers from Universal in 2006. -
