Andrew Gold Remembers a Shy Linda Ronstadt
September 4, 2003 - Linda Ronstadt (pictured left with Andrew Gold) was never known as a very prolific writer having only penned a handful of songs in her long career. The singer was more of an interpreter of other people's music but long time friend and back up musician Andrew Gold has fond memories of co-writing that first recorded Ronstadt song. Gold says, "She was kind of shy and she was telling Peter (Asher) and I that she'd written this little melody with a few words and it wasn't finished and maybe she could sing it but she was just too shy." The year was 1976 and the song "Try Me Again" which ended up on the hit album "Hasten Down the Wind." Gold says, "I went up to her room, closed the door and she sat on one bed and I in the other and she just sang it." Ronstadt was already a big music star at this point and Gold says, 'The anticipation of her becoming a writer was huge, it was so funny because (laughing) we opened up the door and it was like one of those cartoons where all these people fell." Gold is our feature artist in our new "Pop Music" section.
