Alicia Keys Hides in the Grassy Knole
April 19, 2008 – Alicia Keys the conspiracy theorist? Sort of has a ring to it doesn’t it? So she’s more than just a self centered, pretentious “look at me” diva. The multiple Grammy winner recently told Blender magazine, "Gangsta rap was a ploy to convince black people to kill each other. 'Gangsta rap' didn't exist.". She also says that the whole east coast/west coast feud that ended up killing both Tupac Shakur and Notorious B.I.G. was fueled by government and media to make sure another strong black leader from rising. Someone needs to tell her about Barack Obama quick.
Keys who is 27 also told Blender she’s been reading up on the Black Panthers and wears a gold AK-47 pendant that symbolizes ''to symbolize strength, power and killing 'em dead.'' There goes her clean image! To make things more interesting Keys mothers had this reaction to her daughter wearing AK-47 jewelry, ''She wears what? That doesn't sound like Alicia.''
Keys also told Blender she wants to write more political songs. If black leaders such as the late Black Panther Huey Newton ''had the outlets our musicians have today, it'd be global. I have to figure out a way to do it myself,'' she said. Maybe Keys is forgetting that music actually had more of an impact on the public psyche during the Black Panther era of the mid sixties to early seventies.
Mike Belgrove of popjournalism said “Alicia is a talented artist but I think it’s pretty safe to say that she is an idiot.” Message boards on Ethanshow.com were just as harsh, for example - “I couldn’t believe it. I had always thought she was smart. Little did I know. In reality she is a cross between a Black Panther and a retard.”
This week Alicia back-peddled in a hurry with this statement:
"My comments about 'gangsta rap' were in no way trying to suggest that the government is responsible for creating this genre of rap music” Oh yeah Alicia that flip-floppin’ sure gives you street-creds! – by John Beaudin

More Awards for Alicia?
February
15, 2008 - It was a love-in for Denzal Washington, Tyler
Perry and Alicia Keys last night at the 39th NAACP Image
Awards. Washington won for his pet project "The Great
Debaters," it picked up 4 awards. Tyler Perry's "House
of Payne," a TBS comedy series was another big winner
with three Image Awards and in music it was another huge
night for Alicia
Keys. The singer won for "Album of the Year,"
"Female Artist," "Song" for "Like
You'll Never See Me Again," and "Album" for
her latest "As I AM." Keys was originally scheduled
to perform with the dead ghosts of Tiny Tim, Sonny Bono
and Ethel Merman at the ceremony but Keys was suffering
from exhaustion from lack of sleep since last Sunday's Grammy
Awards. Something about the ghost of Frank Sinatra showing
up at her bedside carrying a big stick. - by John
