Wayman Tisdale Loses Leg to Cancer Aug. 27, 2008 – Smooth Jazz guitarist and former NBA star Wayman Tisdale has lost part of his right leg to Cancer. His wife told the press yesterday that “everything went well.” Tisdale, 44, has been diagnosed with bone cancer and has had knee replacement surgery. He first learned about his condition after falling and breaking his leg on Feb. 8, 2007. Doctors quickly realised that he had a cancerous cyst. He has been undergoing chemotherapy. In June he said, "I feel better than ever. I'm excited. I've got a whole new look on life. I look at life on a whole 'nother radar."
Removing part of the leg was the recommended safeguard to make sure the cancer does not return, "This may sound drastic, but I have put it in God's hands and now have peace, knowing that this is the best way to put this disease in check," he said. "I have complete faith that with the Lord's blessings this surgery will eliminate the cancer from my body and I'll soon be back on the road doing what I do best."
He still plans on hosting his annual Smooth Jazz tour this fall. The National Cancer Institute says 63% of people who have bone cancer live at least 10 more years.

In February 2007, after breaking his leg in his home, further tests discovered bone cancer in his right knee. Mr. Tisdale underwent chemotherapy and touring for the remainder of 2007 was cancelled.
By September, Wayman was well on his way and plans to be part of the Dave Koz Christmas Tour were announced. With the assistance of a cane, Wayman wowed and inspired the crowds with his usual funky and grooving bass sound, positive energy and smiling face.
The former all star basketball giant released “Rebound” on June 3, 2008, his third release on the Rendezvous Entertainment Label. It is currently #2 on the Billboard Charts and features the hit single “Throwin’ It Down.” Although Wayman collaborates with friends and fellow Smooth Jazz stars such as Dave Koz, Brian Simpson and Kirk Whalum, perhaps the most unique and special collaboration on this album is with country music star Toby Keith on the Barry White classic ”Never, Never Gonna Give You Up.”
In speaking on his collaboration with Wayman, Keith says. "He'll take a remake sometimes and play it real good, real cool on his bass and do a real neat jazz version. I said, 'Well I can sing this thing."' Another special collaboration is with gospel recording artist and Pastor Marvin Sapp on the CD’s final tune “Grateful”. The CD ends with inspirational words that will give hope to someone facing any type of challenge, “Even when my days were their darkest, you were there for me." 21, 2005 - Seems like everyone is cruising these days. Smooth Jazz Cruise pioneer Warren Hill has just completed his second
sell out full charter while, almost at the same time, Bob
James was sailing on a musical journey out of San Diego. Later in the year Rick Braun is leading a top-notch line up
on a seven-day trip out of Galveston and Warren Hill's 2006 event is already proving
to be a big early seller. Sandwiched among all this is the "Dave
Koz & Friends At Sea" cruise that sails from San Diego on November
5 and is being managed by the same organization that made Hills last event such
a success. Calling at destinations that include Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas and Peurto
Vallarta, Koz has assembled a line up every bit as good as one would expect from
this master of live Smooth Jazz. Artists already confirmed, and who performed
on the Hill cruise, are Wayman Tisdale, Kirk Whalum, Jeff
Golub, and Jonathan Butler. Joining
them will be Marc Antoine, Patti
Austin, David Benoit, Chris
Botti, George Duke, Jeffrey
Osborne and Praful. It's a line up that promises
