Top Jazz Musicians Show David Sanborn Nothing But Love January 27, 2010 – It’s a love-fest at the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards. The tributes are pouring in for David Sanborn, this year’s recipient of the George Benson Lifetime Achievement Award. Benson, who won the first honor and has since had the award named after him, was the first to tip his hat to Sanborn, “We both have tremendous identities in the world of Smooth Jazz,” says Benson. “It would be hard to find anyone amongst serious music listeners who does not recognize the name David Sanborn and the great music he plays. So, I am not surprised that he is being honored as this year's recipient of the George Benson Lifetime Achievement Award.”
Cameron Smith mid-day at Smooth Jazz Now.com says, “David has been a friend and inspiration to me…the fact that he survived polio as a young boy by spending time in an iron lung and picked up the sax to help build back his strength in his lungs is a just part of his story. His artistic genius, his sense of humor and humility make him a remarkable human being…his lifetime is full of achievement on so many levels.”
Smooth Jazz superstar Boney James added, “David's music was a tremendous influence on my playing and he's always been a great inspiration in my pursuit of a career as a saxophonist. I'm grateful to know him."

David Sanborn Interview: No Limits To Music Aug. 27, 2008 - David Sanborn is a stellar sax player, who has won numerous Grammy Awards. Besides being a world-acclaimed solo performer, he is also a musician always ready to venture into new musical projects and collaborations. He recently performed at the 42nd Montreux Jazz Festival (July 11th) with the Tower of Power horn section.
That evening was packed up with other stars including vocal legend Roberta Flack. The following day after his performance, I had the opportunity to interview this great artist, for whom “music is like an open sky.”
Akbar Nour : Hello David, it is an honour for us at www.smoothjazznow.com to interview you. I attended your concert at MJF yesterday and it was an amazing performance. On the one hand you were “here” performing in front of us with the Tower of Power horn section rooted in the present and on the other hand, you were “gone” into the past, reconnecting to your musical roots and paying tribute to some of your heroes such as Hank Crawford, Charles Chaplin (your cover of Chaplin’s “Smile” during the concert) and many others. How did this project come up?
David Sanborn : Well, I was actually downloading a lot of my old CDs onto my iPod and I ran across some old Hank Crawford CD’s I had. I found myself going back and listening to them over and over again. I said to myself, that’s kind of where I really started. I just like the feeling that music gave me so much. I did not want to go back so much, as I wanted to bring my experience of that music up to the present. I think that was the love I had for that music; it wasn’t only Jazz, Gospel, R&B, it was all of them and that’s how I think it all really started for me.Read the Interview

Review
- David Sanborn - TimeAgain July
5, 2003 - Much of the music on the latest
from veteran alto sax man David Sanborn relates
to his childhood in St. Louis. As the title
suggests he is re-examining songs that mean
a lot to him. "Harlem Nocturne",
"Sugar", "Tequila" and
"Isn't She Lovely" are clothed in
David's distinctive, easy on the ears style
along with 3 originals and Joni Mitchell's
"Man From Mars". He has a huge hit
with Ben Tucker's "Comin' Home Baby"
and it's only a matter of time before his
label releases another single from the collection. Read

Sanborn Releases TimeAgain June
4, 2003 - David Sanborn returned with a new
album yesterday and the first single is already
a hit on the U.S. R&R charts. "Comin'
Home Baby" from his first Verve album
'TimeAgain' is in the top 20 and Sanborn says
the CD is serving as sort of a homecoming
with covers of his favorite tunes. Expect
to hear Joni
Mitchell's "Man from Mars,"
Stevie Wonder's "Isn't She Lovely"
plus takes on "Harlem Nocturne,"
and "Tequila." 'TimeAgain'
is Sanborn's first album since 1999's 'Inside'
and features the sax man also playing piano.
