Dave Koz and Company Sell Rendezvous Records
Aug. 18/08 – Though no official statement has been released the word is Dave Koz and his partners have sold Rendezvous Records to Mack Avenue Records. Koz founded the label 6 years ago with former radio programmers Frank Cody and record promo guy, Hyman Katz. So far no word as to how this will affect Rendezvous artists like Wayman Tisdale and Jonathan Butler. Here is what Koz said on the sale, “That’s one of the things that was very, very important to my partners and I, seeing as how we were very dedicated to our artists and our brand. Here was a place that would be a great new home for our artists. We felt very confident with that. And also that the Rendezvous brand, which does stand for something, will continue in the future as well. So those are two parameters that were met, making this feel good for all of us. I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone to know that the music business over the last couple of years has changed so dramatically, making it virtually impossible for a young, completely independent company to thrive.” – by John Beaudin

Broadcast Architecture’s Smooth Morning show #1 in Tokyo
June 12, 2008 - ‘Smooth Morning’, hosted by saxophonist Dave Koz and programmed by Broadcast Architecture® scores #1 in the ratings in Tokyo for legendary radio station 81.3 J-WAVE. The show launched in April and scored an out of the box 30.3% share in it’s time slot on Friday mornings between 5-6AM. J-WAVE scored big numbers overall with an average 25 share throughout the week.

BA President Allen Kepler states: “This program is a real joy for our team to program every week.  The music mix is progressive and interesting and features artists like Duffy, Yael Naim, Chris Botti, Coldplay, Adele, Jesse Cook, John Mayer, Newton Faulkner, Corinne Bailey Rae, Colbie Caillat,  Feist, Maroon 5, Mindi Abair, Gavin Rossdale, Ingrid Michaelson and Esperanza Spaulding. It’s like the old days. Each week Michale Hernandez, Lorraine Bergman, Chris Pelton and I dig through new music looking for songs that fit the sound and feel for the show.  Seeing ratings success for J-WAVE is very rewarding to us.”

Host Dave Koz shared: “It’s an honor and privilege for me to be on J-Wave every Friday morning, helping to wake up the great folks in Tokyo with this cool mix of music. I love J-Wave and I adore Japan—and so appreciate the support from everyone at Broadcast Architecture in making this new show a success right out of the box!”

In addition to being a Grammy nominated saxophonist, Koz also hosts the daily syndicated PM Drive show for Broadcast Architecture’s Smooth Jazz Network and is heard in 23 markets across the US including; WNUA Chicago, KKSF San Francisco, KYOT Phoenix, WJJZ Philadelphia and most recently added to the lineup on KOAS Las Vegas and new network affiliate KKHI Denver.
