Dave Koz Enjoying Side By Side Tour with Brian Culbertson September 3, 2009 - Sax star and accomplished composer Dave Koz and gifted keyboardist, trombonist and composer Brian Culbertson are touring this summer. It’s the Side By Side Tour, launched in July, where they collaborate each other with their bands and promote their latest releases : Dave Koz’ “Great Hits” and Brian Culbertson’s “Bringin Back The Funk”.As David Koz recently declared to Detroit’s Smooth Jazz radio station, Smooth Jazz V98.7: “This seems to be something that excited me creatively and also just for the times that we find ourselves in and that is just to hang out with someone, a good friend, and support each other, and be there for each other. So basically we're on stage together the whole time. We put our bands together, so it's two members of my band, two members of his band, we put our music together. There's a natural kind of kinship”. Beside being a widely popular radio host, Dave Koz, a six-time Grammy Award nominee currently signed to Concord Records, is pledging that his upcoming CD will be a come back to the classic instrumental pop sound he is well known for. Koz will also be honored with a star in the sidewalk on Hollywood Boulevard’s Walk of Fame later this year. After his tenth successful album “Bringing Back the Funk”, Brian Culbertson’s next CD and DVD will be called “Live from the Inside”. Recorded in the historic Capitol Records A Studio in Hollywood (where legendary artists such as Frank Sinatra and the Beatles recorded), the project will come later this fall. So finish your summer with plenty of smooth, funky fun and great music with the next “Side By Side Tour” dates (with special guest, famous soul vocalist Peabo Bryson) : For more information : www.brianculbertson.com and www.davekoz.com By Akbar Nour |

Dave Koz Starts Christmas Tour This Week Known as one of the most popular Sax players in the biz and one of the most accessible to both radio and fans, Koz is always interested in people, “The holidays reach the core of what makes us human and gives us hope,” he said. “When people come into the Sunrise Theatre, they’ll find a warm, family kind of environment, with nice, fun and inspiring music to make everyone feel warm and happy.’ “Christmas music makes you want to grab onto your favorite slippers, your favorite robe, get into your comfy PJs and relax. Christmas music is musical comfort food.” – by John Rohn |
Dave Koz and Company Sell Rendezvous Records Aug. 18/08 – Though no official statement has been released the word is Dave Koz and his partners have sold Rendezvous Records to Mack Avenue Records. Koz founded the label 6 years ago with former radio programmers Frank Cody and record promo guy, Hyman Katz. So far no word as to how this will affect Rendezvous artists like Wayman Tisdale and Jonathan Butler. Here is what Koz said on the sale, “That’s one of the things that was very, very important to my partners and I, seeing as how we were very dedicated to our artists and our brand. Here was a place that would be a great new home for our artists. We felt very confident with that. And also that the Rendezvous brand, which does stand for something, will continue in the future as well. So those are two parameters that were met, making this feel good for all of us. I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone to know that the music business over the last couple of years has changed so dramatically, making it virtually impossible for a young, completely independent company to thrive.” – by John Beaudin |

May 1, 2012 - We live in a world where most instrumental music sounds like it was made for a 5x5 vertically moving room and that includes some Smooth Jazz. Interestingly, most Smooth Jazz musicians are technically some of the best players on the planet but many have fallen into this big vacuous hole, an amnesic state, where channelling Bert Kaempfert is common place.
April 17, 2012 – Get ready for another beautiful journey from David Benoit on May 29th. His new album, `Conversation,’ will no doubt serve as another expansion for the Smooth Jazz format.
April 26, 2012 - Norah Jones is set to appear with a Live-on-Letterman webcast, featuring Jones from the prestigious Ed Sullivan Theater in New York, Wednesday, May 2nd at 8:00 ET. This is a clever, strategic move for Jones to push her next album “Little Broken Hearts” set for a May 1st release.
April 4, 2012 – Esperanza Spalding is a groovy chick. I mean, really, when she’s in the room, everyone else disappears and I’m talkin’ more than that big “love-sculpture” hair. She’s the type of musician you might walk up to at a party, ask about her music, and walk away three hours later regretting the question. This lady has a vision so you better have a seat.
February 21, 2012 - As it was stated during the Grammy Awards, "We've had a death in the family." Now our own Jazz family is remembeing Whitney Houston.
February 21, 2012 - Shock, disappointment and horror are some of the many words fans used to describe Whitney Houston’s untimely death last week (February 11, 2012). My family and I were outside a Starbucks when one of our radio listeners texted me with, at first, the rumor.

– Not many groups have stood the test of time like Airborne. Coming in around the time that the NAC format was really starting to cook, 1988, this outfit grew with every project, gig and album. Having just released their most powerful album yet, New Horizon’s, it looks like the world is ready for this, a full dose of positive, social conscious fusion. We sat down with the band to chat about all the twisting, yet beneficial roads taken.
– The smart ones in life know that it’s not how you fall down in life that counts but how you get up. Zach Bandolin has had his fair share of topsy-turvy moments but the guitarist keeps swinging.
- French Smooth Jazz guitar sensation Emmanuel Abitebol, more known as U-NAM, came to fame with his widely acclaimed somophore album ‘Back from the 80’s’ released in 2007.
October 20, 2011 – This is no ordinary album. In fact, there is nothing normal about this album and that’s what makes this one of the most perfect projects that’s ever come across my desk.
– On her third album Colbie Caillat has decided to strategically give us an uptempo summer-vibe. It still sounds like her smash debut “Coco” but this time it’s Colbie with caffeine and it’s positive and fun
– There are not too many things in life as deliciously lazy as Michael Franks voice. The guy could chill out someone on deaths door. Seriously, angst has no place on a Michael Franks record – he’s good at one great thing..making you feel good!
- Programming Smooth Jazz Radio has allowed me to discover talent over the decades and follow the twists and turns in their career. Such is the case of saxophonist Steve Cole an artist whom has played on numerous number #1 Smooth Jazz hits and been a regular spin on most smooth jazz radio stations play lists.
– There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party.
– Well, one things for sure, Mindi Abair is not shopping on Main Street anymore. As they say, “run away from the past and eventually it will run into you.”
November 15, 2011 - Dave Koz fans are thrilled with his fourth Christmas album. All the songs on his new release “Ultimate Christmas” are compilations from his three previous holiday albums. Now this is ringing in the festivities Koz style!
May 5, 2011 – Looks like Dave Koz is ready to clear out his fridge! The guy won’t be home much this year. The saxophonist has just released his new extensive tour schedule, which includes at least three different tours including his popular Christmas dates.
October 7, 2010 – Smooth Jazz Now is proud to present Dave Koz’ highly anticipated new album “Hello Tomorrow” premiering today at noon (eastern). Koz will visit the Smooth Jazz Now studios and join host and station Program Director John Beaudin as they play the album in its entirety.
October 7, 2010 – It only took sax sensation Dave Koz six weeks to reach the #1 spot on the Smooth Jazz Now TOP 30 Countdown. His “Put the Top Down” received the most response in the last seven days at the station, enough to unseat John Legend who had the top spot for two weeks with “Wake Up Everybody.”

November 6, 2007 - Saxophonist Dave Koz, whose Holiday CD "Memories of a Winter's Night, was released in September, is continuing to spread holiday cheer by decorating a holiday Swarovski Star, with his nieces Taylor & Jenna, that is being auctioned on Ebay to benefit the Starlight Foundation. The ornament stars are 23 inches with glittering Swarovski pieces crystals, necklaces and silk Among other celebrities to decorate stars are singer Patti Austin, model Christie Brinkley, and boxer Laila Ali. To place a bid on Dave's star on any of the other celebrity stars, go to www.ebay.com/swarovski. Not only will 100% of the proceeds from the Ebay auction go to the Starlight Foundation, but Swarovski will donate $250,000 to the Foundation as well. Koz is currently sailing the Caribbean on his annual Dave Koz and Friends and Sea Cruise. The Dave Koz 10th Anniversary Smooth Jazz Christmas kicks off on November 23rd in Lake Tahoe with guitarist Jonathan Butler, bassist Wayman Tisdale and vocalist/ American Idol finalist Kimberly Locke. - by Joy Hall
