REVIEW - Bob Baldwin – Presents Betcha By Golly Wow – The Songs of Thom Bell – Peak Records (**2 out of 5 STARS)
May 1, 2012 - We live in a world where most instrumental music sounds like it was made for a 5x5 vertically moving room and that includes some Smooth Jazz. Interestingly, most Smooth Jazz musicians are technically some of the best players on the planet but many have fallen into this big vacuous hole, an amnesic state, where channelling Bert Kaempfert is common place. REVIEW - Esperanza Spalding – Radio Music Society (4 out of 5 Stars) – Heads Up – Concord Music Group
April 4, 2012 – Esperanza Spalding is a groovy chick. I mean, really, when she’s in the room, everyone else disappears and I’m talkin’ more than that big “love-sculpture” hair. She’s the type of musician you might walk up to at a party, ask about her music, and walk away three hours later regretting the question. This lady has a vision so you better have a seat. MORE

Lets Remember Whitney Houston, The Good and Bad
February 21, 2012 - Shock, disappointment and horror are some of the many words fans used to describe Whitney Houston’s untimely death last week (February 11, 2012). My family and I were outside a Starbucks when one of our radio listeners texted me with, at first, the rumor. MORE

Airborne Interview with Smooth Jazz Now
– Not many groups have stood the test of time like Airborne. Coming in around the time that the NAC format was really starting to cook, 1988, this outfit grew with every project, gig and album. Having just released their most powerful album yet, New Horizon’s, it looks like the world is ready for this, a full dose of positive, social conscious fusion. We sat down with the band to chat about all the twisting, yet beneficial roads taken. More

Kennard Ramsey – Somos – 5 out of 5
October 20, 2011 – This is no ordinary album. In fact, there is nothing normal about this album and that’s what makes this one of the most perfect projects that’s ever come across my desk. MORE

REVIEW: Colbie Caillat – All of You - Universal Republic
– On her third album Colbie Caillat has decided to strategically give us an uptempo summer-vibe. It still sounds like her smash debut “Coco” but this time it’s Colbie with caffeine and it’s positive and fun. Caillat co-wrote every tune on the album with different famous, mostly behind-the-scenes songsmiths.. MORE

REVIEW - Michael Franks – Time Together – Shanachie Records
– There are not too many things in life as deliciously lazy as Michael Franks voice. The guy could chill out someone on deaths door. Seriously, angst has no place on a Michael Franks record – he’s good at one great thing..making you feel good! MORE

REVIEW - STEVE COLE - “Moonlight”
- Programming Smooth Jazz Radio has allowed me to discover talent over the decades and follow the twists and turns in their career. Such is the case of saxophonist Steve Cole an artist whom has played on numerous number #1 Smooth Jazz hits and been a regular spin on most smooth jazz radio stations play lists. MORE

REVIEW - Sade – Soldier of Love
– There’s always been an understated value to everything that Sade does and sameness to her entire repertoire. That quality of old wine has served the singer/band well… until now. Unlike Norah Jones who has, at least, tried to mix-up-the-pot, Sade really needs to stop wearing the same dress to every party. More

REVIEW - Mindi Abair – In Hi-Fi Stereo

– Well, one things for sure, Mindi Abair is not shopping on Main Street anymore. As they say, “run away from the past and eventually it will run into you.” More

Annie Lennox Gets a Government Job
May 31, 2010 – Annie Lennox says she is all about giving back. The singer has just been named as a special envoy to the Scottish Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association. The appointment will continue her work at helping people fight HIV/AIDS.

Government spokesperson Alex Fergusson says "We are very pleased to announce Annie’s new role as a special envoy for CPA Scotland Branch and to welcome her back to the Scottish Parliament's Festival of Politics as she discusses her SING Campaign - one year on.”

The Eurythmics singer said, 'I’m absolutely delighted to be officially made a special envoy for CPA Scotland Branch with regard to the issue of HIV AIDS. In this way I hope to contribute to the long-standing Scottish tradition of standing up for human rights and justice, with special regard to women and children in the developing world. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this possible.”

With the new gig Lennox will also be a key speaker at the Festival of Politics to provide an update on her work fighting HIV/AIDS in South Africa.

Fergusson continues, 'In 2009 Annie shared her personal experience of witnessing the effects of HIV/AIDS in Africa and the action we can all take in fighting the pandemic. This year we look forward to an update from Annie on the positive developments the SING Campaign continues to have on people living with HIV." – by John Beaudin (courtesy of www.rockhistorybook.com)

Annie Lennox Gives the Music Industry a Failing Grade
March 27, 2009 – Annie Lennox is fighting mad and she’s aiming her gun at the music industry. The Eurythmics singer and successful solo artist says the industry is "vile" and a "bloody nightmare" and that's just the good news.

In fact, Lennox felt it necessary to take a step back from the world of music to protect her two teenage daughters - Lola and Tali. She points out that the fickle celebrity existence has nothing to do with the real world. "The music industry is a bloody nightmare,” says Lennox, “The egos, the slightly criminal elements, the betrayers, the ones who want to screw you, the ones who were in it for this, that or the other.”

The singer says the quality of the folks who play this game leave a lot to be desired, "Sometimes I've been so shocked at how vile somebody has been. But you just have to let it go otherwise it could drive you mad."

Lennox, who is 54, has no plans to actually retire but feels disheartened by shows like ‘American Idol’ and ‘The X Factor,’ "They've got this panel of judges and they're supposed to be the God almighty that says this is good, and this isn't good. What do they know? Who are they? All those shows are very formulaic."

Annie Lennox Suffers Spinal Injury
Aug. 25, 2008 – Annie Lennox is slowly on the mend after spinal surgery last week. The Eurythmics singer had yet another operation last week to fix an ongoing problem that kept the singer literally on one leg for months. Word from the Lennox camp say she’ll hae to undergo at least six months of intense physiotherapy to get back on her feet. Annie says, "I could only drag my leg around the house. Something told me urgent action was required. I had micro surgery on Friday morning. This is the fifth time I've gone under the scalpel and each time I think it's miraculous. I can now walk again slowly, without the drag, but it's going to take at least six months of physiotherapy before I start to walk more normally again." We wish her a fast recovery. – by John Beaudin
Annie Lennox Wants Everyone to leave Amy Winehouse Alone
July 13, 2008 – Annie Lennox has an idea for the paparazzi – leave Amy Winehouse alone. She feels that the troubled singer really needs a rest from the spotlight and some needed rehab. Lennox who has long been deadest against drugs firmly believed that Winehouse can’t get better unless she has time to herself. Lennox said, " wish somebody could stop everyone taking pictures of her and get her out of the spotlight. I want to see her healthy, not wrecked." – by John Beaudin

Annie Lennox Loses Contract and It Gets Ugly
January 17, 2008 - What the hell is happening in the music industry? Up to 1/3 of EMI's staff could be let go including many artists being dropped, half of the American Idol top guns are without a label and now Annie Lennox has been let go from Sony - and that parting is not pretty. Yesterday the former lead singer of Eurythmics said, "They totally ignored me,. It was bizarre. It was a kick in the teeth. They didn't return my phone calls or emails for three weeks. I'm trying to find out what's behind it. Probably a good thing I'm no longer with them - mild understatement." Sony on the other hand calls it all "ludicrous." In a statement Sony/BMG confirmed that the two have parted ways but stated it hopes to work with her in the future and would continue to work with Lennox on her current album. The album "Songs of Mass Destruction" was released in October and so far has sold 232,000 copies in the United States. "We are immensely proud to have worked with Annie over more than two decades," said Sony/BMG Music Entertainment U.K. chairman Ged Doherty. "She now has a choice as to whether she wants to continue to work with us in the future. We very much hope that she will."

So far neither Lennox nor her management, 19 Entertainment have reacted to the Sony/BMG statement. - by John Beaudin
