Quotes
on John Beaudin from the Smooth Jazz Industry"John
Beaudin is all about relationships - in business, on the air, conducting interviews
- it's all about forming relationships with John. I have been involved in Smooth
Jazz in Canada since the early seventies working for the CTI label in Toronto
and I have never met anyone as committed, connected and knowledgeable about Smooth
Jazz as John. He is also the one person in this country who has had phenomenal
ratings hosting and programming Smooth Jazz first in Edmonton in the mid to late
eighties and for CHUM from 1990 to 2001. John invented this format in Canada in
its present form. He is Mr. Smooth Jazz in Canada." - Linda Nash, Tidal
Wave Records, Toronto
"My
basic comment would be that the guy is simply amazing. To be more specific, his
knowledge of music, especially within the "Smooth Jazz" format, is as
thorough and far reaching as any Smooth Jazz radio personality/music director
that I've dealt with in my 35 year career as an Artist Manager. Further more,
in my dealings with John I have always found him to be intelligent, articulate,
empathetic and expressly polite......even in the most stressful of circumstances.
Subsequently I believe he would be a most valuable addition to any management
team of any professional music related organization."
- Jack Forchette
- Air Tight- Management for Fourplay & Steve Oliver
"As
a management and agency specializing in Smooth Jazz, we spent a lot of time dealing
with talent buyers, radio stations and websites. Several of the Artists we represent---Kim
Waters, Chuck Loeb, Ken Navarro, Jeff Kashiwa and Chieli Minucci were interviewed
by John Beaudin at Smooth Jazz Now.com and all of them had very positive and pleasant
experiences.
We
all found John to be very courteous and caring about the Smooth Jazz format. I
strongly recommend to all of our Artists and their managers and record companies
to contact John as he is the man in the know about Smooth Jazz in Canada. John
spent a great deal of time explaining to me Canadian broadcasting and how the
Smooth Jazz format works there."
- Steve Butler Central Entertainment
Services Inc
"I
have known John for over a decade and I have always been impressed by his knowledge
of the music and artists that make up Smooth Jazz. His relationships and rapport
with artists is testimony to his passion, dedication and love of not only the
music business, but, radio as well. The artists that I have talked with know of
John and his website and mirror my sentiments. In music circles, John is known
as "Mr. Smooth Jazz". It has been a pleasure knowing and working with
John. He is a valuable asset for our industry and a prized addition for anyone
in our field."
- Ross Langbell General Manager RCS Canada Ltd.
"John
Beaudin is the leading force in Smooth Jazz in Canada. His knowledge of the genre
and his commitment to the artists who play it has provided an audience for artists
internationally. I am proud to know him." Anne Oakley - Manager Alfie
Zappacosta
"This
memo is to express my thoughts and perception regarding my business dealings with
John Beaudin. His knowledge and perseverance with music has exceeded the standards
within the music industry. His endless efforts and commitment to the current music
scene has made "Smooth Jazz" well recognized amongst listeners, record
labels and entertainment management. He is a forerunner in the business and creates
a leadership role in all of his endeavors. I respect and admire John and look
forward to working with him on many additional projects." - Devine Taylor,
Executive Director Motown Alumni Association
"I
fist
became aware of John Beaudin while living in Edmonton in the mid-80's. It was
startling to hear a show which featured such innovative music, a show that was
a combination of New-Age and Jazz. This was even more stunning because of John's
mastery of the genre and his rapport with many of the leading artists of the day.
Oh, and did I mention that he was doing all of this in Edmonton, not really the
most (at the time) progressive of cities. I can say that being born and raised
here.
As
I continued to listen it became even more apparent that John's smooth on-air style
was unlike anything that I had ever heard. The only comparisons available to me
were from some Jazz stations that I had the pleasure of hearing from California.
When
John decided to move to Vancouver in the 90's to seek a larger market, it was
no surprise to me that he quickly became the dominant force on the west coast.
In a highly competitive radio market and progressive listener landscape, John
started to dominate the nighttime airwave, a position which he holds to this day.
In
the mid-90's I had have had the pleasure of getting to know John. His amazing
naturalness behind the mic and mastery of smooth Jazz is always a pleasure to
observe. I have hired John to do several video voice-overs for my company. His
native ability to communicate with his voice has helped one of my clients to sell
over 20 million dollars of services. These sales were due in large part to John's
ability to influence with integrity.
John's
passion for the Smooth Jazz genre inspired him to single-handedly conceptualize
and create the website www.smoothjazznow.com several year's ago. This website
has become the defacto standard for creating and building a community of Smooth
Jazz aficionado's around the world. Look at the interviews and you will see that
John is "the man" when his name is spoken in the smooth Jazz marketplace.
While
starting out to support and nurture the Canadian Smooth Jazz market, this site
has grown into one of the most visited and read websites of it's kind on the planet.
The success of the site has pushed John to (reluctantly) widen the name to included
the entire Smooth Jazz world, www.smoothjazznow.com. As a true champion of all
that is good in Smooth Jazz, John, his shows and website are a true gift to all
of those who love the genre.
His
knowledge of Smooth Jazz, encyclopedic knowledge of music, industry influence
and reputation make him a national treasure." - Wyatt
Cavanaugh Writer Producer May 2004 Media Advantage, Edmonton
