Cheryl,
a longtime fan of live music is new to smoothjazznow.com
as a contributing editor. Toronto area readers
might remember The Generator, The Triumph Hotel,
and Peaches on Pears Avenue...just to name a
small sampling of the hotspots around town for
live jams back in the day, and Cheryl remembers,
"I was out about town at these clubs listening
to R&B and jazz before I was old enough
to be there, and the two things I love to do
most in my free time are 1. Write and 2. Mellow
out to Smooth Jazz, so writing for smoothjazznow.com
is definitely a dream come true for me."
Cheryl
was born in sunny Jamaica, but immigrated
to Canada along with her parents and two
siblings at the age of 5. Raised in the
Greater Toronto area, Cheryl grew up listening
to soul music. "Aretha Franklin, Gladys
Knight, Shirley Bassey, and Roberta Flack
were all household names to me as a child,
and a lot of smooth jazz has that same feel...there
was a difference between R&B and Soul
music, and these ladies had an abundance
of soul."
"Some of my most life altering moments
have taken place over music. I met my husband
when he was spinning records in a Toronto
nightclub while putting himself through
College, and we've been married 19 years."
Cheryl is an avid reader, a writer, and
loves research, and web surfing. She also
counts photography as one of her hobbies.
