Joe Turner - Sat 1-4PM & Sun 2-4PM
Joe was born and raised in Detroit and still has a huge passion for all things Motown, especially the music, though now he makes his home in Naples, FL. Joe began his radio career in 1982 at a small, suburban Detroit AM station. From there, he worked a variety of formats, including urban, rock, oldies, country and smooth jazz. Joe and his wife Christine have been married since 1995 and love living in Florida. “The area of Florida we live in (southwest) exemplifies the smooth jazz lifestyle,” says Joe. “Palm trees, sunshine, beaches and smooth jazz – it doesn’t get any better.” Joe loves to cook, and is also an avid cruiser. Many of his recipes come from his sampling of foods from throughout the Caribbean. “Life’s too short to eat the same old thing all your life,” he says.
Music is Joe’s greatest passion. His mother has a picture of him standing on an ataman watching the turntable of a console stereo at the age of three. He started collecting records when he was young, which lead to his lifelong love of music. Joe is also a musician, playing guitar and keyboards, though only as a hobby. “I’m a decent player, but when I hear people like those we play on Smooth Jazz Now, I put down the guitar and just listen in awe. That’s why I love this format of music the best. Smooth Jazz has the most consummate (and accessible) artists in music. I love this station.”
Joe’s deserted island picks: If I was stuck on a deserted island, the three albums I would have to have with me are “Aja” by Steely Dan, “Long Distance Voyager” by the Moody Blues, and “Cover to Cover” by Paul Hardcastle.
